Overview
Every asset moves through a series of statuses from the moment it's requested to the moment it's returned. Use this as a quick lookup for what a status means and what typically comes next.
Status Meanings
| Status | Performed By | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Requested | Project Team Member | A request has been submitted and is waiting on the Asset Manager's decision. |
| Approved | Asset Manager | The Asset Manager has approved the request. |
| In Transit | Asset Manager | The asset has been dispatched and is on its way to the project site. |
| Declined | Asset Manager | The request was declined; nothing gets dispatched. |
| Issued | Site Manager | The Site Manager has marked the asset as received. |
| Direct Issue | Site Manager | The Site Manager received the asset directly, without waiting for approval. |
| Return Initiated | Site Manager | The Site Manager has started the return process. |
| Returned | Asset Manager | The Asset Manager has confirmed the asset is back - the journey is complete. |
Common Paths
- Standard path: Requested (Team Member) → Approved (Asset Manager) → In Transit (Asset Manager) → Issued (Site Manager) → Return Initiated (Site Manager) → Returned (Asset Manager)
- Declined but still needed on-site: Requested (Team Member) → Declined (Asset Manager) → Issued (Site Manager receives it anyway)
- Skipping approval: Requested (Team Member) → Direct Issue (Site Manager) → Return Initiated (Site Manager) → Returned (Asset Manager)
- Manager-initiated return: Anytime → Return Requested (Asset Manager) → Returned (Asset Manager, once Site Manager confirms)
Why this flexibility exists: Real-world site work doesn't always wait for digital approval. These alternate paths make sure an asset can still be tracked accurately even when it shows up ahead of, or despite, what's logged in the system.
